ABOUT US

Every semester Boston University hosts approximately sixty to seventy international students, who are studying abroad at Boston University. Some students stay for one semester, others for the academic year. We have students from all over the world—Ecuador, Spain, Switzerland, France, Norway, Australia, Lebanon, Korea, China, and Denmark. Most of these students are coming from schools abroad that routinely partner with Boston University to offer study abroad exchanges.

In order to help these exchange and visiting international students transition to life in Boston and at BU, the Boston University Exchange Student Ambassador program pairs interested exchange students with current students studying at one of Boston University’s nine colleges. This pairing allows the exchange and visiting students to learn the ropes of the University and deepens their understanding of American culture. The partnership also benefits the Boston University Ambassadors as it provides them an opportunity to learn about a different culture, to lead events and programs, and, when they get lucky, to meet students who attend the universities where they plan to study abroad in a future semester. Those who assume the Ambassador role are expected to meet with the visiting/exchange student paired to them routinely throughout the semester.

In addition to a mentorship program, this club provides opportunities for all  Ambassadors and visiting/exchange students to Boston University to intermingle as a large group. The Exchange Student Ambassadors coordinate events—cultural and/or social—to allow all group members to get to know one another. Overall, it is a wonerful experience as well as a great opportunity for all who become involved!
